Ontario, CA, August 26, 2016: At a much anticipated home opener, the Ontario Jaguars Varsity Football Team fell to Ontario Christian 28-19. The Jags look good from the outset, after recovering an OCHS Knight’s fumble in the red zone on their second play from scrimmage. Three plays later, Antoine Paul rushed into the end zone from 18 yards out to put the Jaguars on top, 6-0. A few plays later however, the Knights would take the lead 7-6 on a long pass into the corner.
QB Luis Rivera then rushed from two Jaguar touchdowns in the 2nd Qtr from 3 yards and 9 yards. That would end the Jaguars scoring on the night. It was at that point that the whole momentum of the game shifted in favor of the Knights. In less than two minutes, the Knights marched 68 yards, scoring with just 31 seconds in the first half. After taking a 19-7 lead into halftime, the Jags were unable to stop the marching Knights. Ontario’s defense, which was able to sack the OCHS QB four times in the first half just gave up too march yardage in the second half. In the end, the more than 2,000 Jaguar fans in attendance had to settle for a 28-19 loss. One player worth noting whose name kept being voiced by the announcer was Julio Mixco who was very strong on defense.
The night was a great time for fans who waited nearly 50 years for a home game at Ontario High School. The Jaguars next face the Nogales Nobels on Friday, 9/2. Kickoff is slated for 7pm.
