Ontario, CA- January 26, 2018: The Ontario Jaguars had an easy time of it against Alta Loma with a 72-33 victory on Friday. However, it was not your typical Ontario defensive showcase. The Jaguars were a step off in the first half and could not convert some easy opportunities throughout the game.
“It was a win but I feel like we can be much better with our efficiency on the court” said Head Coach Chris Emami. When asked about specifics, “We missed a ton of lay-ups, had a bunch of turnovers, and we missed some easy defensive rotations.”
Leading the way for Ontario was Jazzlyn Johnson with 24. “She really turned it on in the second half defensively which led to some great scoring opportunities” said Coach Chris.
Kyra Williams had a strong game with 17 points. Coach Chris had this to say about her game, “Her defensive assignment changed right before tip-off and she did a great job adapting to the change in plans.”
With her career high was freshman Laisha Coria who had 12 points on strong shooting. “Laisha is going to have a great career here at Ontario”, said Coach Chris.
Besides the leading scorers the following people scored for Ontario: Maya Davis had 2 points, Julianna Sanchez had 8 points, Surai Perez had 6 points, and Kartrinna Hua had 3 points.
Ontario is 22-1 on the season and 6-0 in Mt. Baldy League play. They next face Montclair High School in a Mt. Baldy League game. “We cannot take them lightly because they are a very scrappy team. We need to come out super strong at the beginning of this game” said Coach Chris.
The Montclair game is scheduled for Tuesday January 30th. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:45 PM at Ontario High School.
