Ontario, CA- February 17, 2018: The Ontario Jaguars has found ways to pull out victories all season long. Their playoff game against La Sierra on Saturday was no exception. In a game that featured over a dozen lead changes, Ontario found themselves with the lead when it counted most, the end. At the final buzzer Ontario ended up with a 49-42 victory. This was the first time that Ontario has hosted a playoff game outside of the first round since 1989, adding to the list of firsts that Ontario has accomplished this season.
“I’m giving some credit to the radio team at IE Sports Net for giving us good karma when we went in for a radio interview this morning on Fox Sports AM 1350” joked Head Coach Chris Emami. When asked about advancing to the Elite 8, “These kids don’t want this season to come to an end and you could really see that in their effort tonight. This is a really special group”.
Leading the way for Ontario were both Jazzlyn Johnson and Julianna Sanchez with 17. “They both made some really big plays and hit some big shots” said Coach Chris.
Besides the leading scorers the following people scored for Ontario: Surai Perez had 7 points, and Kyra Williams had 8 points.
Ontario is 27-2 on the season and now advance to the Elite 8 of the CIF Division 4AA Playoffs against St. Bonaventure “This is another really solid basketball team that plays smart” said Coach Chris.
The St. Bonaventure game is scheduled for Wednesday February 21st. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM at Oxnard College.
