Oxnard, CA- February 21, 2018: The Ontario Jaguars have now matched the furthest playoff run in school history and have secured the first ever California State Playoff Berth in Ontario High School history. In the game against St. Bonaventure, it featured multiple lead changes and a very exciting comeback in the 4th quarter. Trailing by 3 going into the 4th quarter, Ontario locked down on defense to outscore their opponent 22-10 in the 4th quarter and earn a 49-40 victory.
This continues the CIF Division 4AA run that Ontario has been on and continues the historical season for Ontario at least 2 more weeks. They have now advanced to the Final 4 for the 3rd time in school history.
“This game was the best win in Ontario High School history” said Head Coach Chris Emami. When asked about advancing to the Final 4, “The heart and determination that we showed in the 4th quarter was incredible. What a great effort by this group and it is clear that they want to keep this season going”.
Leading the way for Ontario was Jazzlyn Johnson with a school record 37 points. “That is what you call a big-time game by a big-time player. This is why she put in the hard work that she did this past offseason” said Coach Chris.
Besides the leading scorers the following people scored for Ontario: Stephania Franco had 2 points, Julianna Sanchez had 2 points, Ariana Fealofai had 3 points, and Kyra Williams had 5 points.
Ontario is 28-2 on the season and now advance to the Final 4 of the CIF Division 4AA Playoffs against Brentwood “They are smart and shoot the ball really well” said Coach Chris.
The Brentwood game is scheduled for Saturday February 24th. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM at Brentwood High School.
